ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Announcing the Challenge Grant for the
Dave Mawhinney Endowed Legacy Fund!
John Levinson ‘MSIA '80, founder of Westway Capital LLC, has graciously created a $50K challenge, matching gifts on a 1:1 basis with a maximum of $10K matched in support of the Dave Mawhinney Founders Legacy Fund.

The Swartz Center and CMU would like to thank the Cannupa Foundation (John Levinson, MSIA '80) for their generous support of this new endowed fund.

With the Dave Mawhinney Founders First Endowed Legacy Fund, we honor the legacy of Dave by embodying his unwavering commitment to putting founders first—providing not just capital, but the deep support, mentorship and ecosystem that empowers visionary entrepreneurs to realize their
boldest ambitions.

Just as Dave observes that exceptional founders are the bedrock of groundbreaking companies, the Dave Mawhinney Founders First Endowed Legacy Fund will provide pre-seed or seed stage grants to CMU startups that demonstrate remarkable potential, resilience, vision and commitment to the Pittsburgh region.

Golub Capital Board Fellows Program: Seeking Alumni Mentors with Nonprofit Board Experience

The Golub Capital Board Fellows Program at the Tepper School gives MBA students the opportunity to serve on nonprofit boards and lead strategic projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, sustainability, and the arts. As part of their experience, Fellows often look to connect with professionals who have insight into nonprofit governance or specific sector knowledge relevant to their work.

Thanks to the Swartz Center’s alumni database, we’re helping Fellows identify alumni who may be open to being contacted for informal guidance or perspective related to their project or nonprofit sector. This is not a formal mentorship, but a way to give Fellows access to potential thought partners as they navigate real-world challenges.

If you’re open to being listed as a potential contact, please email boardfellows@andrew.cmu.edu.
CMU's Scottie Ventures to Host Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) on January 31

Are you about to raise a round for your startup? CMU's Scottie Ventures is hosting the VCIC Regional Finals on Saturday, January 31, 2026. VCIC is an investment competition where undergraduate students from various universities compete and practice their VC startup evaluation skills. Startup founders get an opportunity to practice pitching, practice mock DD sessions with VCs and receive feedback. Students also perform detailed DD/research on the startup a few days before the competition, simulating DD that a real VC would do! This is a great opportunity to practice VC interactions and receive feedback.
