Psalm 91:14-16
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”
New International Version (NIV)
                How old is old?  Older than we are, right?  From time to time we read of the oldest person in the world.  The position is enviable, but exchanges often.  Jamaican Violet Brown is 117 years old and has a 97 year old son, making him the eldest person with a living parent.  Her secret:  not eating pork or chicken, or drinking too much rum.  She added to the equation, "Hard work!"

                We may not control the number of years in our lives, but we have something to say how much life will we put into our years.  The Psalmist reminds us that dwelling in the shelter and resting in the shadow of Almighty immeasurably enhances life.  God promises to answer the prayers of his people and to be with us in trouble.  God satisfies with long life and shows us salvation.

                Serving the Lord is not primarily about adding to the quantity of years we live.  One could live a long time and not live well.  But to know the Lord and serve him faithfully are great gifts.  Every one of us can make this day count for eternity!  So we sing to the Lord, "Take my moments and my days.  Let them flow in ceaseless praise."  Loving God never gets old!

Pray with me:
Father, we have only just a minute, but eternity is in it!  Help us to invest our whole lives in the good news of Jesus Christ so that we become a good-news, life-giving people.  For your glory, we pray.  Amen.
