Traffic Study Planned in District 5

With an eye toward continued growth in District 5, I was happy to support a traffic study in Limestone County to identify areas where traffic is expected to grow in the future. Meeting that growth is a plan to petition the Alabama Department of Transportation for a new interchange on Interstate 65 between the I-565 interchange and the Huntsville Brownsferry Road interchange. A new interchange would help alleviate pressure on the I-565 interchange.

Independence Day Celebrations

It’s the summer holiday season and MidCity District will be having its annual fireworks celebration on Saturday among other activities throughout the Independence Day weekend. The American Eras Parade will be downtown on Saturday with fireworks following in Big Spring Park. Everyone enjoy this celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday.

Tiny Twirlers (Baton Twirling) for ages 4-12 – Wednesdays, 5:00 PM
Dance Fitness – Wednesdays, 6-7 PM

'Wrapped in Pride'

It was a thrill to meet and talk with Elizabeth Bell, a talented artist whose art piece “Wrapped in Pride” I recently purchased at the American Signature Art Show at Harrison Brothers Hardware. She presented this incredible piece to me at the Council office and shared about the inspiration behind her work. I was also privileged to share with her a bit about my family history – including my father James Meredith, who integrated the University of Mississippi and his voter registration march from Memphis to Jackson, Miss.

Contining Support for Global Ties Alabama

I recently visited with Global Ties Alabama (GTA) and presented another installment of District 5 Council Improvement Funds to this outstanding organization. These funds will help offset the impact of recent government shutdowns and support the organization’s operations. Thank you to GTA CEO Jacquelyn Shipe for your continued partnership with our city. It is a pleasure to support the incredible work you and your team do to strengthen international relationships in our community.
