The city of Oneonta is proud to become your home away from home during your college journey. I am happy that our city provides a safe and beautiful place to live, learn, explore and grow. As Mayor, I speak for our businesses and residents in welcoming you back to the community. There has never been a time when working together as one community has been more important.
We all have a responsibility to reduce the spread of COVID-19. I want to thank you all for doing your part in adhering to the college’s vaccination, testing and masking policies. This is a perfect example of the simple actions we can all take to positively impact those around us. The actions of one can have a significant impact on others. We must hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards when it comes to health and safety.
We are a close-knit community where everyone looks out for each other. I hope you have a chance to enjoy our many parks, shops and restaurants. Please remember that we are all still working hard to avoid activities that allow the virus - including the new Delta variant – to spread. Unmasked, crowded gatherings should be avoided. As neighbors, we share the common goals and responsibilities of ensuring that Oneonta is a safe, fun and vibrant place to live.
Welcome to, or welcome back to, Oneonta. I am always impressed by all that SUNY Oneonta students accomplish, and I hope to meet as many of you as I can throughout the year! You can always reach me personally at gherzig@oneonta.ny.us. I will always respond.
Sincerely,
Gary Herzig
City of Oneonta Mayor
