Are you looking for a new way to exercise and improve your mental outlook at the same time? For the last 13 years Barbara Tierney has taught Kundalini Yoga at the Dietrich.  Currently, classes are Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m., a perfect time to physically and mentally jumpstart your weekend.  I was a beginner Kundalini practitioner 13 years ago, and I am so glad that I stuck with the practice that includes breath work, including “breath of fire,” lots of spinal exercises, chants and so much more. My good friend Ingrid Rogler and I have been faithful practitioners for all these years, and we want to encourage you to give it a try. It can be practiced on a chair or a mat or a combination of both. We celebrated Ingrid’s 77th birthday last Saturday!  Barbara calls us her “Tunkhannock family,” because she comes from Scranton to teach our classes. For information or to register call the Dietrich at 570-836-1022 x3.
Coming up on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Dietrich Theater, Tunkhannock Business and Professional Women and Marywood University, you are invited to the Courageously Kind Project, a free event.  Presenters Liz and Maddie Adams will tell you about their own lives and encourage and teach you how to be kinder to yourself and others. Everyone will receive a token of kindness.  Light refreshments will be served. You are invited to this inspirational afternoon, so come with family and friends.
Breaking news is that Erica just told me that we have a very special event coming up on Sunday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m. The free Dietrich Film Favorite of the month is Glory, a Civil War story that won an Academy Award for Denzel Washington.  It is sponsored by the Ezra Griffin Grand Army of the Republic Museum in Scranton at the Steamtown Mall.  This film has a local connection, because the 54th regiment featured in the film served nearby a local regiment, the 52nd PA Regiment, known as Luzerne Regiment. The 52nd PA Regiment was the first federal unit to reclaim Fort Sumter on February 18, 1865.  Bob Baker and other members of the Ezra Griffin GAR Association will introduce the film.  Pick up your free tickets at the ticket booth or call the number above to reserve yours.
Speaking of the Civil War, as I write this column, I am making plans for tonight to go to the first Wyoming County Reads discussion at the Tunkhannock Public Library. The featured book this year is Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. It is a book that I bought in 1997 when it was published. My son Andy is visiting me now and remembers that he read it back then and loved it and can still remember it vividly. So, he will come with me to the book discussion, led by Mary Zbegner, tonight. I love it when Dietrich events can help me entertain my family.
The next discussion will be at our new book store next door to the theater – The Little Book Place. Yes. Wednesday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m.  and the movie of Cold Mountain, with Nicole Kidman and Jude Law will be at the Dietrich on Wednesday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., two free showings.
Last night my son Andy and I saw the last showing of The Complete Unknown at the Dietrich. It was the second time for me, and I loved it even better the second time. And it was another chance for my son to see how much is offered at our Dietrich Theater. He lives in Chicago and is so impressed by all the Dietrich provides.
Now we can look forward to Winter Fest and 21 foreign and independent films, beginning Friday, February 21 with Conclave at 7:00 p.m.  My friends and I will make our own dinner plans at a Tunkhannock restaurant ahead of time.  I invite you to do the same.
There are so many reasons to come through our doors this February. I guarantee that new doors will open up for you if you do.
