3 quick ways to support Act On Climate
3 quick ways to support Act On Climate
This action alert is brought to you by the RI Climate Crisis Campaign.
Rhode Island has never been this close to real climate action. But we're not done yet.

After four hours of debate on the floor of the House, the Act On Climate bill (H5445) passed the House in a 53-22 vote. Thank you to all the climate warriors who rallied outside of the Vets Auditorium in support of this landmark bill! Be sure to take a moment to thank Rep. Lauren Carson for sponsoring, Majority Leader Chris Blazejewski for defending the bill on the floor, and your state representative if they voted in support of the bill.

The final step before Act On Climate becomes law is getting the Governor's signature. But Governor McKee has not yet taken a position on the bill, and advocates are concerned that fossil fuel interests have the Governor's ear.

Here are three things you can do to make sure Act On Climate gets McKee's signature and becomes law. For a reminder on what the bill actually does, check out this post from the Conservation Law Foundation or read this op-ed from The Boston Globe.

1. Sign the petition.

Governor McKee needs to hear that Rhode Islanders want the Act On Climate passed as it is, without any additional amendments. Advocates and environmental organizations are writing letters of support. We need you to sign this petition. It takes just one minute.

Sign the petition here.

2. Contact Governor McKee's office.

Leave a voicemail at (401) 222-2080 or send an email using this form. Your message can be short and sweet:

"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm from [CITY/TOWN], Rhode Island. I'm reaching out to voice my support for Act On Climate. I urge Governor McKee to sign the bill as is, without any additional amendments or changes. I am counting on Governor McKee to be a leader on climate by signing this bill promptly. Thank you."

3. Pass this information along to other Rhode Islanders concerned about climate change.

Fossil fuel interests are doing their best to influence the Governor to remove the teeth from Act On Climate. The more Rhode Islanders who voice their support for this bill, the more likely it is that we can overcome the intense pressure from opponents.

Forward this email to your friends, colleagues, and family members who are concerned about climate change. This is a crucial moment to make sure we have a liveable future for all Rhode Islanders.

Thank you for your support. Now, let's get it done!
