Abuse Allegations Against Former Faculty Member

The university has been made aware of sexual abuse allegations made in New Orleans against Stephen Sauer, a former Jesuit who served at LMU from August 2006 to June 2009 as a theological studies faculty member, and from September 2016 to February 2017 as a part-time LMU Extension instructor. LMU has no record of allegations of misconduct against Sauer during his time at the university.

LMU takes allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and supports holding accountable abusers and those who protect them. The university also stands with those who may be affected by news reports about the charges facing Sauer. LMU CARES, Community of Care, and the Employee Assistance Program provide resources and support for survivors of sexual misconduct. LMU encourages students, faculty, staff, and alumni to report any incident of sexual misconduct to the university and to law enforcement. Do you see it? It’s a very bright star!) My six-year-old sister tried to obey my instructions, but I’m not sure she could see what I saw. I was well-trained by my Abuela Lolita, an accomplished musician and my first teacher in the faith, to notice the world and everything in it. Loyola Blvd. Gate Remains Closed to Vehicular Traffic Through Jan. 14

Completion of the Loyola Boulevard gate maintenance project was delayed due to winter weather, and the gate will remain closed to all inbound and outbound vehicular traffic through Jan. 14. During this time, students, faculty, and staff who walk or bike may continue to access the gate. All pedestrians and cyclists should utilize the sidewalk and be prepared to tap their OneCard when coming onto campus. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Welcome Reception for the Academy for Jewish Religion California (AJRCA), previously scheduled for Jan. 13, 2022, has been postponed to a later date due to changes in LMU guidelines regarding in-person events. More information will be shared when the reception is rescheduled.

Jennifer Esposito, professor at Georgia State University, takes an intersectional approach to qualitative research, centering race and gender.
