A new view from the J-School |
After a brief hiatus, the iconic view from the top of Gannett Hall is back. This month, we installed a new outdoor webcam, which offers a livestream of the Journalism Courtyard and surrounding campus buildings including Mizzou's iconic quad. Originally mounted to document the construction of the Reynolds Journalism Institute, the camera has become a quiet fixture that connects alumni, students and friends to the heart of the Missouri School of Journalism. The new setup now also feeds directly into the RJI TV studio to support both storytelling and live broadcasts year-round.

KBIA, our NPR member station and training ground for generations of J-School students, is facing a loss of nearly $500K in federal support after Congress rescinded already-approved funding for public media. The KBIA Resilience Fund was created to protect trusted local journalism, critical emergency alerts and the Missouri Method experience. If KBIA shaped your time at Mizzou, now is the time to stand up for its future.

Christian Piekos, BJ ’16, is a reporter for ABC 7 Chicago who recently grabbed headlines after rushing to help an injured cyclist during a live broadcast. That moment and other adventures in the city — like waving the checkered flag during a NASCAR event and covering the election of a Chicago-born pope — can be seen on his Instagram account.

| Missouri Method in Action

J-School students in Mizzou’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter took their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) work up a notch this spring. Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays organization worked with the students to develop branding strategies for future stars in the minor leagues, creating opportunities for hands-on experience with research and refining personal brands for athletes. PRSSA students have been creating NIL plans for Mizzou athletes since 2023.

| Apply now for our new Reynolds Chair
|
In June, the J-School launched a national search for the Reynolds Chair in Journalism Strategy and Business Operations, and applications are still open. The Reynolds Chair will work to help make community journalism sustainable and support students as they build the skills that will support that mission in the industry. The position will also collaborate with the Reynolds Journalism Institute to test news products and business models.
