Dear Members of the DCPS Community,
I’m writing today to express our shared vision for DC Public Schools as a place for all students, regardless of their race, ethnic background, religion, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, language, or family’s income level.
At DCPS, we both believe in and practice inclusion. Since the release of our LGBTQ vision in 2011, we have been a leader among school districts for supporting our LGBTQ school community, including our transgender and gender-nonconforming students, staff, and families. Our Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming Policy Guidance helps schools ensure that all students are treated equitably and with dignity at school, and includes specific guidance to support our transgender and gender-nonconforming students, staff, family members, and visitors to our schools.
We remain committed to supporting and protecting our transgender school community, as well as all of the students, families, and community members of DCPS.
Sincerely,
Antwan Wilson
Chancellor
