Good things take time to build. How long does it take to build a temple? Solomon’s temple was under construction for seven years. Over three thousand years later, some of the stones of Solomon’s temple have been unearthed by archaeologists underneath the Western Wall. These stones were carefully cut at the quarry. No chisel was used at the building site.
God has been building his church for over two thousand years now. Jesus is the precious, living cornerstone. We, too, like living stones are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:5). He is relentless in his work, creating us in Christ to be his masterpiece. We are God’s dwelling place on earth. Wherever his people gather, God is.
In Revelation, God says there is no temple in the heavenly Jerusalem. The living, lasting, eternal temple is comprised of God’s people. No wonder God is still working on us. Remember the old song, “He’s still working on me . . .” Well, he is. God is not finished with us yet. As Brandon Lake writes, “He’s not done until it’s good.” What God is building in us will last for eternity.
