Physicians are uniquely positioned to witness the complex factors that fuel medical hesitancy among patients, from cultural beliefs and historical injustices to misinformation, systemic barriers and personal experiences with the health care system. This year we invite you to explore the roots of medical hesitancy you have encountered and to propose compassionate, evidence-informed strategies for rebuilding trust, writing about ways physicians can overcome these challenges.

| Advocacy in Action this February |
On Feb. 3, GLMS hosted its Legislative Reception at Angels’ Envy, bringing together a panel of state Senators and Representatives to discuss key health care policy issues. On Feb. 18, several GLMS members traveled to Frankfort to continue those important conversations during Physicians’ Day at the Capitol. Both events sparked meaningful dialogue on topics including prior authorization, scope of practice, and physician wellness. Thank you to our physician members who participated and continue to advocate for the health and well-being of patients across the Commonwealth.

Professional organizations like GLMS, KMA and AMA support physicians as leaders, advocates and lifelong learners. In this month’s Louisville Medicine, we’re looking at what membership means to our physicians, and how organized medicine has shaped their careers, connected them to community and amplified their voices.

Meet Andrew Woods, DO, a PM&R physician in training at UofL who believes in helping patients rebuild not just function, but identity. “Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation focuses on a person’s potential, not just their injury. It’s team-based, goal-oriented, and creative – helping patients reclaim the life they want to live.” Read more in this month’s Dr. Who.
