Week of January 31, 2016
"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant;       if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. "
-Anne Bradstreet
We know that the weather made this a trying week for families and faculty alike. Thank you to all for your patience, understanding and support as we "undug" from the snowstorm.  We are certainly glad to have all of our Dragons back at School! (Hooray for 60 degree temps this weekend!)
Re-enrollment Contracts:
Contracts for the 2016/2017 School year have been mailed to our current families. Thanks for returning them to us by Monday, February 22.
Join us for SMBA Championship Fun!
Come out and cheer for the SMBA Final Game on Thursday, February 4. We hope all of our Dragons will come and support the teams!
This night of family fun and great basketball begins at 6:15 p.m. with a SMPA-sponsored s'mores roast in the Middle School gym parking lot before the game (weather permitting).  The game begins at 7 p.m. Go Dragons!

Birthday Books
The presentation of Birthday Books to the library is a special tradition at St. Michael's. Each year, students may choose a favorite book from a selection of new books set aside in the library, from a bookstore or by special order through the library. A special bookplate in front of each Birthday Book contains the name and birthday of a child presenting the book to the library collection. Books may also be given in honor or memory of someone. The second assembly honoring Birthday Book presentations will be held on the Bon Air Campus on Thursday, March 31.
The deadline to submit Birthday Books is March 17. If you have questions, please contact Carol Wise.

Ash Wednesday & Lent, from Rev. Jeunée
February 10th, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent, the 40 day season of reflection which precedes celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday.
St. Michael’s students, families, teachers and staff are invited to join St. Michael’s church for the Ash Wednesday services, held at 7 a.m., noon, or 7 p.m. Additionally, Rev. Jeunée will once again offer “Ashes to Go” on February 10 for parents and students at the Lower School campus at morning drop off, 8:00 a.m., at Ticer Hall near McRae Rd, and then at the Middle School Campus during pick up at 2:50 p.m.  Ashes remind us of our mortality and the need to honor God’s gift of life and love each day.
Lent is also a great time to take on a spiritual practices in order to get closer to God. The church website has several resources that may be of interest to St. Michael’s students and families.
