Ken Pink, the University of Utah’s deputy chief information officer since 2015, will retire on October 31, 2025.
As head of the DCIO organization, Pink directs UIT’s University Support Services, Project Management Office, Strategic Communication group, Strategic Planning and Process Team, and Partner Relations. He has been integral in UIT’s application development, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and IT product and project management endeavors, and serves as a member of the UIT Leadership Team.
“Ken brought to his job a great depth of understanding, skill, and wisdom after many years of experience in IT resource management and operations,” said Chief Information Officer Steve Hess. “He has greatly improved the reliability and effectiveness of the university’s IT services. He was well liked and admired by his professional associates for the many contributions he made. We wish him the very best in his upcoming and well-deserved retirement.”
Pink began his career as a C programmer, then moved to network engineering before going into IT management. From 2013-2015, Pink served as associate director for IT and GIS in Facilities Management, where he worked to align business processes with IT initiatives, including Oracle Unifier, CCure, and GIS infrastructure.
Over the course of his career, Pink has been a CIO on three occasions and a company president twice. Prior to working at the U of U, he developed and implemented IT infrastructure and systems improvements at Viva Markets, EW James & Sons, Tomax Corp., Harmons Grocery, and Fleming Foods. Pink holds a Bachelor of Science in finance and computer science from the U of U, and a Master of Business Administration from Utah State University.
