HANGING ROCK CHRISTIAN CAMP

October Email Newsletter 2021

From the Camp Director,
September has been a busy month here at Hanging Rock. We kicked the month off with 260 attending  Labor Day Family Camp. Then we hosted the  Ladies Night Out for the first time in two years. We hosted the Plainfield Christian Church Jr. High Retreat. We had Vermilion Heights Christian Church for their annual church camp out and and Sunday service and picnic at the camp, We held our annual ministers brunch with 44 of our ministers attending. We hosted a Trail Life troop campout on the Wilderness side of camp and then we wrapped up the month with our 2021 Golf Scramble and raised over $5,000 for our matching donation challenge.
We are so blessed here at Hanging Rock to have so many people who enjoy coming and having their retreats here at the camp. I'm really excited about a retreat we have planned in October for all church staff called Soul Care. I met with Greg Taylor from Second Church, Jeff Keller from Brady Lane Churh and Kevin Wildman from Sterling Christian Church and we discussed the stress that ministers and staff are under, coming out of covid and now the unexpected with this new strain. We really desire to provide a place for all church staff to come experience a little soul care of their own. We would really appreciate it if you would encourage your minister and staff to come, be encouraged and help them take care of their soul so they can help you take care of your soul. The cost is $25.00. The month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month, why don't you encourage your staff to come to this and even pay their way. How blessed would they be?

From the Associate Director,

You have probably heard or read that we served over 17,500 meals this summer! If you haven’t let me, be the first to tell you that we served over 17,500 meals this summer! That is no small feat, and I am super proud of the team we had in the kitchen this summer. With that said, I would love to get more people involved in summer camp cooking and our retreat season cooking. If you or someone you know has a passion for cooking, I would love to talk to them and get them connected here at Hanging Rock. It takes a lot of hard work to feed people and we are always looking for help. You may not know this, but we have retreat groups just about every weekend and most of them we do the cooking for them. So, just about every weekend I am looking for help in the kitchen. I would love to expand our cooking teams to allow some of the summer camp cooks more time off during the non-summer camp months. So, if you would like to help be a cook, kitchen assistant, or dishwasher please reach out to me and I will get you trained and in the rotation. You can reach me at toddblair@hangingrock.org or by calling the camp office at 765-893-4581
