CPFM Bike Commute Challenge |
|
|
Join the CPFM Bike Commute Game this July! The challenge: lower your number of “step-offs” (foot touching the ground) during your commute. First, set your par. Add 1 for every major street you cross on your commute, such as streets with three or more lanes (e.g., Franklin) or streets that are consistently busy (e.g., Willamette). From there, notice how many “step-offs” you have during your morning commute and try to beat your par. Sign-up and record your results via our team spreadsheet. The only goals are to be safe and have fun (although bragging rights and friendly ribbing are 100% encouraged). Questions? Contact Cimmeron Gillespie, cimmeron@uoregon.edu.

Island Mode Testing - August 7th |
CPFM Utilities and Energy will perform Island Mode testing on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. Utilities and Energy staff will switch the entire campus in and out of Island Mode twice per hour. The first test will begin at the top of the hour, shifting off of EWEB’s electrical grid and onto our own power generation system (called Island Mode). At 15-minutes after the hour, we will exit out of Island Mode and return back to EWEB’s power source. This cycle will be repeated again at 30-minutes after the hour, re-entering Island Mode and 45-minutes after the hour when exiting Island Mode. If problems occur during any of the planned fourteen island mode tests, power outages up to 10-seconds in duration may occur.
We will also be conducting building level tests on four different locations. The buildings will be without power for 60-90 minutes. The work to be performed includes breaker testing and repair, electrical system repairs, transfer switch test and repairs, arc flash hazard study data gathering, programmable logic updates, replace inoperative equipment, and re-torque main lugs.
8:00 - 9:30 am CPFM Compound (Bldgs. 130, 136, Lock shop, Wilkinson House, Quonsets) will be without power.

Many thanks to Ashley in CPFM who responded to my call earlier today. The power washing on Knight Library would have been an unwelcome interruption at the Department of Biology Commencement Ceremonies happening in Memorial Quad. Ashley took my call, said she’d look into it and returned the call letting me know the issue was being resolved (which it was 10 minutes before the start of the ceremony)!
Thank you SO MUCH for the excellent customer service CPFM!! - Jen Strong, Academic Programs Manager

Kudos to the entire Grounds team for the phenomenal work you all do every single day (through the rain, shine, snow, sleet, wind, heat, dust, pollen, etc). You make our students feel like they belong. - Debbie Sharp

I was deeply touched and humbled by everyone who attended my retirement celebration yesterday and also by the emails from folks who were not able to be there. Special thanks to Sandi, Madeline, and Nick for organizing the brilliant party!! I have left a piece of my heart behind on the U of O campus AND with the grounds crew and I am truly lucky to have shared the journey with all of you!

Big thanks to CPFM staff working under the leadership of Stacy Breaux and Paul Langley late into the night on Thursday May 30th. Both teams were critically important to the emergency efforts to stop the massive flow of chilled water into the Pacific Hall sub-basement, to providing pumping access into the building through rarely used exterior hatchways, to assessing electrical hazards of the situation, to locking out the building elevator, to removing excess heat from the research freezer room, and to re-activating usable building systems after the water was pumped down to below electrical connections. EHS and water extraction contractor efforts would have been unable to succeed without the resources provided by CPFM.
- Steve Stuckmeyer, EHS Director
