Greetings From the Dean

It was June of 1994 when our first class of engineering graduates walked across the platform to receive their diplomas. That first graduating class of 24 students (half mechanical and half electrical engineers) were pioneers. Those who returned for their 30-year reunion enjoyed watching the largest-ever freshman class of engineering students (172) compete well in their cardboard canoes on a beautiful Friday afternoon during homecoming weekend.
Our graduates are in higher demand than ever before. Industry recruiters are seeking out our civil engineering graduates to help rebuild our physical infrastructure. At the same time, the worldwide demand for electronics continues to outpace our ability to manufacture the technology infrastructure needed to support data mining, the use of artificial intelligence, and the complexities of machine learning. That’s why you’ll read about Cedarville’s connection with Intel as they construct a chip fabrication facility not far from our campus. Our graduates are also highly sought after by government recruiters. Similar to the formal relationship that our cyber operations program has made with the NSA, Cedarville has signed an Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the Air Force Materiel Command. The Air Force leadership has noticed the high quality and character of our graduates and would like more of the same.
We ask that you pray with us after our latest visit from our accreditors. ABET sent
a team of eight to visit our faculty, staff, students, and facilities in mid-November. They provided some feedback for us to consider, but more importantly, we ask that you pray for the team members. Pray that our Lord will use the message of hope and life that we shared throughout their brief visit to Cedarville (Isaiah 55:11). As has been the case for more than 30 years of educating engineering students at Cedarville, God has a plan for each of us … all we need to do is obey His voice when He calls!

In Christ,
Bob Chasnov, PhD, PE
Dean

Celebrating 30 Years of Engineering at Cedarville

While you may not be able to judge a book by its cover, you can discern the quality of an academic program by the success of its graduates and partnerships with business leaders.
At Cedarville University, having partnerships with the National Security Agency (NSA), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and Intel indicates the success of its 30-year engineering program, which includes computer science and cybersecurity. Today, Cedarville graduates are leaders at Honda, Lockheed Martin, and GE Aviation. These accomplishments point to the strength of Cedarville’s engineering program and faculty, who have been educating students for the past 30 years.

Air Force Materiel Command Partnership Benefits Students, Region

Cedarville University and the Air Force Materiel Command Engineering and Technical Management Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) have formalized their long-standing relationship through a new Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA). This agreement aims to bolster collaboration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, benefiting both institutions and preparing Cedarville’s students for professional roles at the base.

Intel Investing in Engineering at Cedarville University

A national shortage of engineers with experience in semiconductor development is motivating Intel to invest in college graduates during the next stages of their expansion. Future Cedarville University engineering graduates will benefit from investments into educational programs and proximity to a $20 billion Intel facility under construction within an hour of campus.
With financial support from the State of Ohio, Intel decided to build a new facility in New Albany, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Cedarville University’s proximity to this new facility provides a great opportunity for Cedarville’s engineering students.

CUE School Producing Immediate Entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs are flocking to the new Cedarville University Entrepreneurs (CUE) School to make their ambitions a reality.

For Kaicheng Ye, a senior cyber operations and computer science major from Beavercreek, Ohio, CUE School directed him on his journey to publish his first fiction novel, LIGHt, which is now available on Amazon. The storyline follows four middle school students who discover a suspicious person lurking around their school courtyard before finding themselves in a mess they never expected — and don’t know how to manage.
Ye credits CUE School for equipping him with the knowledge and resources to transform his idea into a finished product. He continues to inspire his fellow students to pursue their goals and to start implementing their education now, regardless of their major.

Rocket Launch Team Honored by NASA

And the winner is … Cedarville University’s NASA Student Launch team.
In a surprise announcement, Cedarville’s NASA Student Launch team was named the recipient of the “Pay It Forward” award, sponsored by NASA’s Artemis program. The award was presented at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, last month during an online ceremony.
The award is presented to only one of the 49 schools that participated in the launch challenge in 2024 and is in recognition of Cedarville’s excellence in promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects to elementary and middle school students. Cedarville was selected over teams from a field including Ohio State University and the United States Air Force Academy.

Engineering Students Impacting Missionary Hospital for Good

Helping those in need inspires creativity and action. Ken Atkinson, engineering lab technician at Cedarville University, discovered the impactful work of the Karanda Mission Hospital and shared their need for clear roads during Zimbabwe's rainy seasons with his colleagues to make a difference.

Dr. Tim Norman, distinguished professor of mechanical/biomedical engineering, assigned four senior mechanical engineering students — Andrew Yerkey (Dublin, Ohio), Sarah Kepner (Shepherd, Michigan), Brooke Dodson (Danville, Indiana), and Peter Tsibours (Westerville, Ohio) — to support the hospital’s mission by designing a much-needed earth-mover device. The concept was for their senior capstone project, which was supervised by Norman.
