Hi Neighbor!
Do you ever wonder why someone decides to take two things that are perfectly good on their own and combine them? Case in point: the wave pool. (My sincerest apologies to the six subscribers who are wave pool fans.) Who on earth thought this was a good idea?
Let’s break this down for a minute. Exhibit A is the swimming pool, a refreshing rite of summer that serves up hours of fun. Exhibit B is the ocean, another source of endless entertainment with its pounding waves and sandy shoreline. A + B = no bueno in my book.
I went to a wave pool once when I was a kid, and I still remember the alternating sensations of terror and claustrophobia that enveloped me each time the “waves” started. (My mother was equally horrified, and we never returned, thank goodness.)
I took my two older daughters to a water park last week and tried, but failed, to steer them past the wave pool. (A funny thing about wave pools; I can’t think of a single person who likes them but they’re always packed with people.) They begged me to go in, and in a temporarily moment of insanity, I acquiesced. Once those waves started coming, I immediately regretted it. There were at least half a dozen lifeguards on high alert and if you think your job is stressful, spend 15 minutes in their shoes (or chair). After one “round” of waves, the wave-generating machine broke and we had to clear the pool (I have never been so thrilled about a mechanical failure in my life!). Next month we’re going to the beach, and I can’t wait to soak up those glorious, ALL-NATURAL waves.
Surf's Up!
