I don’t know about you but, in the heat of the summer, I’m looking for any excuse to stay cool. A swimming hole? Let’s dive in. Cold beer? I’ll have a pint. Ice cream in the shade? Save a scoop for me!

Indoors and out, there’s no shortage of ways to escape the summer heat in the mountains of Transylvania County. One of my favorite ways to stay cool is with a good old-fashioned event. There are concerts to see, festivals to attend, and so many other fun happenings. I can hardly wait!

Bear Country 5K & 10K

Oskar Blues Brewery

Get outside with the whole family with these fun (and flat) races at Oskar Blues Brewery. Both the 5K and 10K routes start and end at Oskar Blues. Racegoers will traverse the Estatoe Trail with stunning mountain views to motivate you to the finish line. Runners will receive a commemorative race t-shirt included in their registration. An Oskar Blues beer is included in registration for those 21+.

Listening to banjo pickin’ in the summertime is a quintessential mountain experience. Hear it from the best at the Blue Ridge Banjo Concert — curated and hosted by 15-time GRAMMY winner Béla Fleck. Listen to the banjo legend himself in Brevard Music Center's beautiful outdoor auditorium as this performance celebrates “all things banjo”.

Mountain Heritage Festival

Lake Toxaway Community Center

Good food, good music, good times. Celebrate the area’s Appalachian heritage at the Mountain Heritage Festival, hosted by the Lake Toxaway Community Center. Browse through 20 vendors selling handmade items, tap your toes to live music, peruse vintage cars, and enjoy delicious food during the event. There will even be a water slide for the kids.

CELEBRATE HERITAGE
