We are thankful that the rocket fire has abated after nearly 1,000 rockets were indiscriminately fired into Israel by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a U.S.-designated terror organization. Israelis spent days in bomb shelters, while these terrorists used innocent Palestinians as human shields. We must urge our elected officials to publicly support Israel’s right to self-defense against terrorists. Take action now.

In the News: Capital Chai Honoree Danya Sherman
In June, Federation was thrilled to honor our Capital Chai: 18 incredible local Jewish leaders under 40. Honoree Danya Sherman spoke with the Washington Jewish Week about her favorite Jewish memories and her company, KnoNap’s mission to empower, educate, and advocate against drink spiking and drug-facilitated sexual assault and crime.

| Spotlight on Federation Israel Grant Recipient Road to Recovery
To further our local connections with Israel and strengthen the work of building a collective Israeli society, Federation has allocated $800,000 to 21 Israel or Israel-focused organizations. One grantee, Road to Recovery (RtR), provides respite and support for families of gravely ill Palestinian children receiving treatment in Israeli hospitals. RtR and Palestinian coordinator Naim identify Palestinian families in need and connect them with Israeli volunteers to drive them to the hospital. These encounters offer interactions between Israelis and Palestinians who might never otherwise engage. Federation is honored to help foster these pivotal relationships. Last week, with support from our community, 100+ volunteers and families came together for a beautiful celebration at the beach in Kibbutz Sdot Yam.
