On Sunday, March 17, at 5:51 a.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of an arson that occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m., in front of 19 University Place, in Manhattan.
At 5:51 a.m., a campus safety officer observed a pile of garbage bags on fire. Nearby NYPD officers notifed the FDNY. The campus safety officer attempted to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher. At 5:53 a.m. the FDNY arrived and extinguished the fire.
Upon further review, the suspect was observed on video intentionally lighting the garbage bags on fire, then proceeds to walk south on University Place.
No injuries were reported.
Description of Suspect: The suspect is male-presenting, with a light complexion, short brown balding hair, and a brown beard, wearing a black jacket, black pants, and gray sneakers.
