With the start of the online holiday shopping season, ITS has witnessed an increase in phishing attacks and scams targeting the LMU community and reminds everyone to exercise extreme caution before clicking any links in received emails.
Two of the specific attacks that ITS is warning about are:
- Unsolicited job offers. Note: that legitimate companies will never ask you to front money nor ask you to use an alternative email. Some of these scams appear to be coming from @lionmail.lmu.edu accounts - do not assume they are safe!
- System warnings that your mailbox will be suspended or over capacity. Note: all LMU ITS notifications will come from official LMU email addresses and contain LMU logos and proper contact information. If it looks strange, it probably is. Always contact the ITS Service Desk to verify.
