County Updates

Ride Norfolk: Have your say 

Ride Norfolk Transit is seeking the participation of business owners in a survey to determine the transportation needs of employers in the County. Your participation will help with our strategic future planning of the service and asses the transportation needs of our workforce.

New Liquor Licensing Requirements
If you operate a bar or restaurant with a patio or if you intend to add a patio to your establishment, there are new AGCO requirements for a liquor license. The new rules came into effect January 1, 2023 and now require a municipal approval. Additional information is available here.

Ontario Centre of Innovation new grant


The Ontario Centre of Innovation has launched a new grant program through their Digitization Competence Centre. There are two grant streams which offer:
- Grant of up to $15k to support development of a Digital Modernization and Adoption Plan (DMAP) 
-Grant of up to $150k to reimburse 50% of implementation expenses of the DMAP. 
- Eligible expenses include acquiring, integrating, or developing software, equipment and hardware.

Digital Main Street

The Digital Main Street’s Digital Transformation Grant is back. As of January 16, 2023 businesses are able to apply for the $2500 technology grant to enhance their online presence. For more information click here

FCC Economic Outlook

Farm Credit Canada recently gave an economic outlook for 2023. You may watch the recording here and the key sector outlook for 2023.

Assistance for Businesses


FoodShift Program for Food and Beverage Processing Sector 
FoodShift program invites organizations based in Ontario operating in the food and beverage processing sector to lead clean technology adoption projects. Now accepting applications on a rolling basis until February 28, 2023.

SMEs in the food processing sector will be eligible to receive up to $50,000, matched by the SME, to support the cost of adopting new green technologies. Please see program timeline for specific cut-off dates.

New (Extended) Survey focuses on Quality of Work 
Norfolk County Economic Development is assisting the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, by promoting a business survey that will focus on workforce needs and challenges of area employers. The EmployerOne – Spotlight on Quality of Work survey has been launched by the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie and is supported by Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, and extended until Feb. 10.

Community & Business Updates

Free Welding Training
There are two more classes coming up for the free Skills2Advance Welding job training, which teaches basic welding techniques and other job-ready skills. Businesses that want to register existing workers get priority for spots in the final classes. These incumbent workers may be able to complete the hands-on training within 30 hours. Training is based on a curriculum from the CWB Welding Foundation. Remaining dates for training:

- Class at Fanshawe College, Simcoe Campus. Orientation, Feb. 17, classes Feb. 21-24 and Feb. 27 - March 3.

- Class at Conestoga College, Cambridge. Orientation Feb. 24, classes Feb. 27 - March 3 and March 6 - 10.
