Spring Start SpotlightEach month during your gap semester, we will feature one of our outstanding students who began LS as a Spring Start. This month, we are featuring another of our amazing LS Student Leaders, Itzel Trinidad-Vidal. Read Itzel's thoughts below:
Hi all! I am Itzel Trinidad Vidal, a junior from Puerto Rico studying Psychology on a Pre-Medical Track and minoring in Chemistry. I was once a Spring Start just like you two years ago. Now, I am more than halfway done with my undergraduate degree.
The first thing I want to say is: it gets better. I know it feels like an eternity before you get to come to NYU, but trust me, your gap semester will fly by. I am not lying when I say my gap semester was one of the best times of my life. I stayed home, got ahead on credits at a local university, and worked as a barista. My days consisted of maybe 2-3 hours of classes and studying, then 4-hour shifts at my local coffee shop, and then straight to the gym. After that, I would go to the beach or catch up with a friend or two. I spent so much time with my family, but most importantly, I spent a lot of time with myself.
My gap semester was a much-needed break after trying so hard in high school to get into college, but guess what…You are already in. You made it. The hard part is done. Enjoy yourself. A gap semester is a unique experience that not everyone has the privilege of having. Do not let your friends who started in the fall make you feel any less because you are starting in the spring. Anyway, who cares? You are still graduating with them, but in a cooler way because you get to do a summer semester in NYC. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to summer in the city.
Please, contact me if you have any questions or just want an upperclassman's perspective. P.S. for all the pre-meds out there. No, being a Spring Start is not going to affect you negatively, but contact me if you have any worries or need any advice. Okay bye!
