Online Kansas Nursing School Guide launched

The Kansas Nursing Workforce Center launched a free web tool, KansasNursingSchools.com, to help potential students explore nursing education options at all schools with nursing programs in Kansas.

As part of the Kansas Nursing Pathways Project, KansasNursingSchools.com provides easy access to features that include:

Drawn from publicly available information, the goal of KansasNursingSchools.com is to make it easier for potential students, and the people who guide them, to access the resources and tools to find the nursing program that fits them best.

May Research Committee Meeting

Watch a recording of the May meeting featuring Lisa Guthrie, PhD, RN, NPD-BC, Nursing Research Scientist and Stacey Wattier, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Director of Nursing at The University of Kansas Health System, where they presented “Accelerating New Nurse Manager Competency Performance: A Multi-Method Pilot Study.”

Led by Shin Hye Park, PhD, RN, the Research Committee facilitates and promotes collaborative nurse research activities across the state. The committee's goal is to leverage research talent to better serve the healthcare community of Kansas, advance the field of nursing and healthcare, and strengthen the nursing workforce in Kansas.

HRSA Wants to Know What Kansas RNs Think

Were you recently invited to complete the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (NSSRN)?

The Health Resources Services Administration sent the NSSRN survey by mail to select nurses. It is the longest-running survey and primary source of data on the nursing workforce in the US.

Why does this matter? It helps the Kansas nursing workforce. When more Kansas nurses respond to this survey, it results in better information about the Kansas nursing workforce.

Data accuracy helps everyone make better decisions about the nursing workforce. This data also drives the reports that the Kansas Nursing Workforce Center produces to help ensure Kansas nurses are supported.

Hello colleagues and friends!

I’m a firm believer that everything happens in due time… and sometimes that means your May newsletter sends in the first week of June. What can I say, except that the Kansas Nursing Workforce Center has been BUSY!

We launched the KansasNursingSchools.com web tool at the Kansas School Counselor’s Association conference on May 26. Early feedback about the site was that of excitement and eagerness to use the tool with K-12 students.

We have also been writing and editing the State of Nursing Education report, on track to hit your inboxes by the end of June.

And, we’re also excited to continue sharing the State of Nursing in Kansas, volume 2 report. You can learn how to leverage this valuable information by marking your calendar for our June 17 webinar (see the second item in this newsletter for details on how to register).

Finally, we’ll be heading to the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers’ annual conference in Minneapolis in June. We’ll be sure to share the good work being done in Kansas and will bring back successful nursing workforce strategies from our colleagues across the country. Our data scientist, Dr. Alex Alsup, also will present “Creating Data Dashboards” during the pre-conference programming.
