Message from the Chair
Dear Friends,
We are progressing through the Fall semester at a blistering speed. I would like to take a quick pause and share with you some of the good news we recently heard about our students and faculty. Lots of things to be proud of!
First, a big welcome to two of the newest members of the CEE faculty: Dr. Pranav Karve and Dr. Hussam Mahmoud. Pranav joins us as a tenure-track assistant professor. While Pranav is new to his current position, he has already been performing groundbreaking research at Vanderbilt as research associate professor operating at the intersection of scientific computing, AI and uncertainty quantification. Hussam joins us Craig E. Philip endowed chair of engineering and professor of CEE. He is also the new director of Vanderbilt Center for Sustainability, Energy and Climate (VSEC). As you can see, the CEE faculty roster is growing in directions that align with the national strategic research priorities. Expect us to continue this trend!
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing our students not only excel in their studies but demonstrate tangible real-world impact. Zach, Logan, Winnie and Elise created something special for their senior design project, which was featured as a central story in the Modern Steel Construction Magazine. I am sure you will be amazed with what they have done and how they pulled it off.
Our students are amazing, but they are supported by a group of faculty who are both model educators and world-renowned researchers. I am proud to call Ghina, Maha and Hiba my colleagues as they continue to excel in their respective careers.
Enjoy these short articles and we will be in touch soon!
Best,
Çağlar Oskay, Ph.D.
