Tallowood Times | Remember Tallowood Tomorrow

Dear Community of Joy Thank you for another amazing Holy Week with you! I am so grateful for my fellow ministers who planned our worship services and brought them into reality. Especially I was thankful for the extensive presentation of scripture in our services this weekend. We want to read the Bible and teach the Bible so that we may learn about Jesus so that we can live like him and lead others to do the same. As Jack MacGorman said, "The Bible has always been for me a meeting place with God." I trust that God's people met him this week in God's word as we shared it together.

On Monday I went fishing. Peter said in John 21:3, "I am going fishing." It was a fun day and we caught a lot of fish... a lot of big fish. If you remember the story of Peter, Jesus called him to leave fishing so that he might fish for people. But after his denial of Jesus and the crucifixion, Peter thought things might just go back to business as usual before Christ. Thankfully Jesus interrupted the fishing with a resurrection recall asking Peter to feed His sheep and tend His lambs.

As much as I love to fish a few times a year, I know our major work at Tallowood is fishing for people and making disciples. In the power of the Holy Spirit, the disciples certainly had success in evangelism, leading thousands to Christ at Pentecost. But they did not stop there. They baptized them and taught them everything that Christ had commanded. Before long these disciples and people of the Way became known as Christians. Christ became their identity. What is your identity? What is mine? What is ours collectively? In the months to come we will continue to think about the relationship dimensions of our life together. This week we will think together in worship about being a "Life-giving" church. I look forward to seeing you here!

Joyfully,

Duane
First Fruits

Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first fruits of all your increase
Proverbs 3:9 NKJV

Called to be generous: You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11)

Called to give our best: For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Called to be grateful: Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe. (Hebrews 12:28)
