Genesis 26:24-25
That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”  Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well.

Please pass the faith!  How do we transmit the truth we believe to the next generation in our families?  Like a relay race, the handoff is really important.  Last night we kept our granddaughter Josie because her parents were meeting with small group and church nursery worker friends. 

Abraham had such a beautiful trusting relationship with God.  Surely, Isaac saw his dad build altars to the Lord and pray.  God left nothing to chance.  He spoke to Isaac personally, identifying himself as the God of Abraham.   God promised to be with Isaac and bless him.  How did Isaac respond?   Like his father before him, he built an altar and called upon the name of the Lord. 

God does not have grandchildren.  Each generation must believe in him for themselves.  Thankfully our God is reliably relentless.  He makes himself known again and again.  But we must decide to believe.  
Pray with me:         
Father, we ask on behalf of the generations that follow us.  Please help us pass the faith to them.  Father, make yourself known to them.  In the name of your perfect son we pray.  Amen!

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.  This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
Hebrews 11:17-19
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”  Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
