Families who travel with hungry youngsters can stretch their budgets, too. Brad’s Deals serves up a list of 65 national restaurant chains where kids eat free, or almost free. Spoon University dishes on 24 restaurant chains that give a free food item to loyalty program participants on their birthday. Possibilities include Panera, Dunkin, Baskin-Robbins, and IHOP.

Easy As Pie
Cooking with Pie Irons
The whole family can get in on the action when dinner or dessert is prepared over the campfire using a “pie iron.” Made of cast iron or aluminum, the hinged cookers come in different shapes and sizes and include long handles to keep cooks safely away from the fire. Endless possibilities exist for fillings, but one of the most basic dessert recipes involves buttered bread topped with canned pie filling, such as cherry, apple, or peach. Toast over the open fire for a few minutes, and yummy goodness results.
