Bring the Beaty into your classroom in 2017
We know bringing an entire class out to the UBC campus is not always possible. Here are some ways you can bring the museum to you!
  • Online Resources: As highlighted in last month's newsletter, our website has tons of PDFs on a variety of topics on our website. Organized by grade, you can choose what works best for your lesson plans and objectives.
  • Videos: There are over 200 videos on our YouTube channel, all covering different topics. If you're looking for a quick introduction to the museum or one of our collections, check out the Beaty Weekly Series. These videos are all under 10 minutes and each one highlights a different specimen from one of our six collections. If you have more time and longer attention spans, try the Way Cool series. These hour-long lectures are presented by faculty members, experts, and students currently researching these topics.
  • Beaty Boxes: Bring real, touchable museum specimens to your school. Bookable for 14-day loan periods, each Beaty Box comes with full lesson plans and information sheets on every specimen included in the kit.

About the Museum
The Beaty Biodiversity Museum strives to inspire an understanding of biodiversity, its origins, and importance to humans through collections-based research, education and outreach. As Vancouver’s natural history museum, we work to promote a greater sense of collective responsibility for the biodiversity of British Columbia, Canada, and the world. The unique combination of world-class research, paired with beautiful, compelling exhibits, strives to make the research conducted at UBC more accessible to the public.

Explore the university’s spectacular biological collections, with 20,000 square feet of exhibits showcasing over 500 permanent exhibits. Among our two million treasured specimens are a 26-metre-long blue whale skeleton suspended in the atrium, the third-largest fish collection in Canada, and myriad fossils, shells, insects, fungi, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and plants from around BC and across the world.
