On August 25, 2024 at 8:45 a.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of an attempted robbery. The incident occurred at around 8:25 a.m. on the north entrance of Washington Square Park, in Manhattan.
The victim, an NYU student, was sitting in the park at the north entrance when the suspect approached the victim, asking for money. After the request was denied, the suspect continued asking until the victim walked away. At this time, the suspect pulled on the victim's hair and attempted to strike the victim, resulting in the victim's phone being knocked out of their hand. The suspect attempted to take the phone but was unsuccessful. The suspect then stared at the victim and left the scene. The victim did not observe which way the suspect fled.
The victim did not sustain any injuries and declined offers of service; Campus Safety Victim Services unit will be following up.
Description of Suspect: The suspect is described as male presenting, light complexion, white and brown facial hair, middle aged, missing teeth, wearing shorts, had a possible leg injury and was in a wheelchair.
