Dear NYU Silver Students,
We want to wish you a Happy 2022, and hope you have had a restful and enjoyable break despite the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and latest Omicron surge. We hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.
This most recent Omicron surge has again challenged us to be nimble as we navigate safety, service, educational, and well-being concerns in the coming weeks and months. As NYU communicated yesterday, we want to remind you that all eligible NYU community members
must upload proof of receiving a COVID-19 booster vaccination by January 18, prior to the start of Spring classes.
Given that Field placements are scheduled to resume
tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4, we additionally wanted to provide you with some guidance and information to aid in your transition back to Field learning for the Spring semester, and also to respond to some of the questions we have received.
Please note that COVID-19 health and safety protocols for each Field placement agency may differ from those of NYU and from agency to agency, given that each has their own contexts and clientele. All agencies, however, are expected to adhere to New York State and City COVID-19 health and safety policies.
Given this:
→ If you have questions and/or concerns regarding in-person activity at your Field placement, please email your Field Instructor (copying your Faculty Advisor)
as soon as possible about these questions.
→ Faculty Advisors have been asked to assist students in discussions with Field Instructors and agencies about any questions or concerns you may have at this time. Faculty Advisors have been provided guidance on this process from Silver’s Field leadership. Please note that, depending upon the agency, some may be able to accommodate temporarily remote or hybrid placements based on client and community need, and some may be unable to do so.
→ All students should work closely with Field Instructors and Faculty Advisors to work out plans that respect the health, safety, ethical and professional commitments to clients and communities, while also attending to students’ safety and health concerns.
→ If you are having difficulty arranging a satisfactory plan with your placement, Silver’s Field Learning office will be available for consultation and can be contacted directly at
silver.fieldlearning@nyu.edu. Individualized alternate arrangements will be made if necessary to optimally support your continued Field learning.
→ Please be reminded that if you test positive for COVID-19, you must notify the NYU COVID-19 Prevention & Response team and follow their guidance. We also recommend that you alert your supervisor at your agency, your Field Instructor, and your Faculty Advisor.
If you have additional questions, please reach out to the Field Learning office at
silver.fieldlearning@nyu.edu. We realize that this is an exceedingly challenging time and we appreciate your efforts to maintain your academic and professional commitment to your agencies, clients, and communities.
