We are excited to embark on our 23rd year of the Andy I. Choi UCSF-Bay Area CFAR Mentoring Program!
We would like to invite the CFAR community to nominate or self-nominate eligible post-doctoral fellows or early-career faculty members working or interested in HIV research to participate as mentees. We encourage the nomination of promising candidates in basic, translational, clinical, epidemiology, implementation, and sociobehavioral sciences at UCSF or at one of our CFAR-affiliated institutions who could benefit from our multi-component program which includes:
- Career mentoring by a senior faculty member;
- Monthly professional development workshops, including time management; manuscript and grant writing; the art of negotiation, among others from CFAR leadership and affiliated investigators;
- Quarterly networking events with other mentees and senior faculty;
-
A Future Leaders in HIV Research Symposium to highlight the work of several of our early-career investigators and to provide research excellence awards;
- A Leadership Retreat focused on topics such as building and sustaining teams and effectively managing conflict;
- Specific Aims Lightning Rounds peer review sessions for RAP and K award applications;
- A national Mentoring the Mentors workshop for mentors of CFAR mentees.
For reference, prior cohorts of participants in the program can be found here.
Self-nominations are welcome!
To nominate someone or self nominate for the program, we ask you to complete this brief form by Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the CFAR Mentoring Program and our early-career investigators.
