The Catalyst:
Activating TN's Green Future
American Natural Gas Public CNG Station Grand Opening in Fayetteville
By: Brook Powell

On August 1, 2017, American Natural Gas (ANG), a premier distributor of alternative motor fuels, in collaboration with the Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition, unveiled its new public compressed natural gas station in Fayetteville, Tennessee.  Located at 1560 Winchester Highway, the facility is open to the public with PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay Division-a Tennessee Green Star Partner-a major customer with its fleet of CNG tractor-trailers.

As the seventh largest private delivery fleet in the United States, Frito-Lay’s highly visible acceptance of natural gas as a transportation fuel will be instrumental in encouraging other fleets to explore procuring ANG for their own operations.  Jonathan Overly, Director of Tennessee Clean Fuels stated “CNG has so many benefits: it reduces greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions, supports growing more green American jobs, and reduces oil imports.  Frito-Lay and ANG are helping us build a stronger and more independent and resilient USA”.

ANG currently owns and operates approximately 40 fueling stations in 13 states across the United States.  This number includes stations in process and under development.  The company is expanding to meet fleets’ demands for CNG, which is the cleanest burning alternative fuel available that has the power to run heavy-duty vehicles.  CNG is also quieter, safer, less expensive, and abundant in America.

There are a total of over 952 CNG stations in the United States.  A really useful website that lists all of the alternative fuels and where stations are located throughout the United States is the Alernative Fuels Data Center website.  There are other useful tools on that website, such as the vehicle cost calculator that uses basic information about your driving habits to calculate total cost of ownership and emissions for makes and models of most vehicles, including alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.  You can also find lists of all of the stations at https://maps.nrel.gov/transatlas.  You can now use this tool to travel across the country in your ANG vehicle.  Buckle up and let the exploring begin!

September is Hunger Action Month!

Get Food Smart TN seeks to promote using food wisely and enhancing the sustainability of
Tennessee's food resources.
Through this new initiative we want to reduce food waste throughout the state of Tennessee, starting in our own kitchens. This program will provide guidance for individuals, families, restaurants, schools, businesses, etc. Part of the initiative is to recognize these entities for what they are doing and will do to reduce food waste. That is where we need your help. We are currently structuring our recognition portion of Get Food Smart TN and would like your input!
Would you please take a moment to take our 10-question survey about the recognition program!
