What difference does birth order make? First born kids start leading from the day they are born. In many families, non-first-born parents defer to their own firstborn children. You may have heard the majority of American Presidents were firstborn children.
In the ancient world, the law of primogeniture reserved the birthright and blessing to the eldest son. But in Genesis, God seemingly subverts the rule at every turn. Isaac was chosen over Ishmael. Jacob finagled his way into the driver's seat over his older brother Esau. When Jacob blessed Joseph's sons, he intentionally switched his hands to offer the better blessing to the youngest.
In Christ, we have the freedom to live in the fullness of God's blessing, regardless of our place in the birth order. By the way, the majority of U.S. Presidents were middle children in their families. Our place in life is not predetermined by our place in our families. In God's family we have a great inheritance and a future as bright as his promises. God's hand is on us today, to bless us and make us a blessing.
