REMOTE LEARNING EDITION

Feelin' The LOVE

We are still smiling thinking about all the ways that our students and families showed their love and appreciation for our faculty this week. Your efforts even made it to NBC 12 and CBS 6. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! (Enjoy our video highlights above.)

Parent Coffees Follow-Up

Thank you to all who participated in Friday's virtual coffees with Dr. Kim Hilton regarding how to help children navigate stress and anxiety stemming from the pandemic.
Below are copies of Dr. Hilton's presentations and resource recommendations by grade level:

Middle School Grade Level Meetings with Mrs. Stargell

Middle School families, thank you for reminding your Middle Schoolers that the first 10 minutes of the weekly grade level meetings with Mrs. Stargell are mandatory to attend. Thanks!

Eighth Grade Graduation

While end of year celebrations will certainly look different because of the pandemic and distancing guidelines set by Governor Northam, St M's administrative team is working collaboratively to set a plan for how we will honor and celebrate the Class of 2020's accomplishments and St M years. Eighth grade families will receive a letter this week with details.

Spirit Week/Magic Dragon Day

We're excited to announce plans for Spirit Week and Magic Dragon Day. While we won't be able to be together for these beloved St. Michael's traditions this year, there are plenty of ways to show your Dragon pride remotely!

SPIRIT WEEK SCHEDULE:
--Monday, April 27: America Day (show your USA pride)
  • Also, create a patriotic sidewalk chalk drawing and post it at #STMSpiritWeek
--Tuesday, April 28: College/University Day (dress in your favorite college attire)
--Wednesday, April 29: Inside Out Day
--Thursday, April 30: Character Day (dress as your favorite figure from pop culture, history, books, etc.)
--Friday, May 1: Blue/White Day (show your St. Michael's spirit)
  • Along with wearing school colors, decorate your home's front door or your bedroom door to show your Dragon pride and post a picture on social media!
Throughout Spirit Week, we encourage you to share/tag photos and videos on social media under #STMSpiritWeek.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd, join us online for Magic Dragon Day opening ceremonies and field games that you can play in your backyard. Stay tuned for details on this and other fun Spirit Week activities!

A Blue vs. White field day competition will be held at the start of the 2020-21 school year in place of this year to determine which team will have bragging rights and will paint the basketball goal.
Maypole: This year's kindergarten class will also have an opportunity to do the traditional Maypole Dance in the coming school year.  Go Blue! Go White! Go Dragons!

At-Home Fun Activities

We know that parents may be looking for more ways to keep kids engaged. Thus, we've put together some of our favorite, mostly screen-free, activities for indoor and outdoor fun on the Extended Day Google classroom page for use by ALL St M students. From art and science to nature and cooking (Hello, Foodie Fridays!), we will continue to update the collection in the weeks ahead.
All Dragons are welcome to DROP IN at no charge using Google Classroom code hqkrqacClick the Classwork tab for inspiration!

April Fitness Challenge

Welcome to the St. Michael’s April Fitness Challenge! In an effort to promote outside activity, we are encouraging each student and family member to get outside and try to log as many steps as possible with the goal of walking, running or biking "virtually" to Busch Gardens by the end of the month.

Show Your Dragon Pride!

For the rest of this school year, Dragon Dress days are now EVERY Friday! Whether blue or white, show your school spirit and wear your St M spiritwear with pride. Send us/tag your pics with #STMDragonsUnited. Go Dragons!
