The 2018 wildfire season in California has been one of the most destructive on record, and the Los Angeles Jewish community is in dire need of help. Thousands have been evacuated and displaced, and a number of Jewish institutions have been destroyed or damaged. Help us help them by giving today to the California Wildfire Relief Fund. 100% of your gift will go to individuals and institutions affected by the fires as emergency personnel and the local communities continue to assess and meet urgent needs.

I Am Thankful for You: A Message from Gil Preuss
This has been a challenging season. From the attack in Pittsburgh to the current rocket barrage in Israel, more mass shootings, and deadly fires, there is a lot to mourn and to question. We should continue to take the time to heal, to support each other, and to speak out against atrocities. As Thanksgiving approaches, however, I also want to take this moment to give thanks.

A successful, Nourishing Evening with Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy
On November 14, more than 400 women gathered in community and friendship for Nourish Your Soul, featuring cookbook authors and restaurateurs Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook in conversation with Joan Nathan. The reception featured delicious food from Solomonov and Cook’s latest cookbook, Israeli Soul, and the program was an opportunity to be inspired by the impact of Federation’s work in our community. Our thanks to the Women’s Philanthropy leadership, including event Co-Chairs Arielle Grill, Ilyse Lerner, Melanie Nussdorf, and Mindy Strelitz, and Vice President of Women’s Philanthropy, Robin Hettleman Weinberg, whose talents, commitment, and passion for our community ensured that the evening was a tremendous success.

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Thankful
It used to be that in the run up to Thanksgiving only the turkey was anxious. But for over a decade, mental health professionals have been warning of an alarming rise in anxiety among children and adults. Gathering with family and friends to reaffirm shared values has often been a way to heal. Unfortunately, people are increasingly worried about those conversations turning hurtful because of partisanship. But voicing gratitude and listing shared blessings can help calm the storm of dissent and partisanship.
