Arts Leadership Team Members Needed

We seek high school-aged counselors to support 4-H Arts Camp on October 4-6 at Upham Woods in the Wisconsin Dells. Arts Camp is a program for 4-Her’s in grades 6-8, where they can explore the Expressive Arts in an overnight camp setting. Art exploration, team building, and leadership skills are integrated into the camp weekend. A counselor training and camp planning weekend is scheduled for September 7 & 8. Arts camp counselors should be interested in developing their leadership and teaching skills. Please complete the application by August 19. We will also be looking for campers to participate in our arts-based weekend of fun!

Swine and Beef Carcass Contests

Thanks to Beck's Meat Market and Loehr's Meat Market for hosting the Beef and Swine Carcass Contests. The Beef Carcass show was held on July 23 and the Swine Carcass show on July 24. This year's grand champion beef carcass winner was Emma R. and Kenadie B., reserve champion winner. Congratulations!

MLP Report and Educational Points

All exhibitors who sold an animal at the 2024 MLC auction must submit a Market Livestock Production form to the Market Livestock Committee by Friday, September 6, 2024.  Failure to do so will result in loss of privilege for the 2025 MLC Auction.  The MLP form is available at www.fonddulaccountyfair.com under Exhibitors→Market Livestock Committee and Project. The form is also found here: https://fonddulac.extension.wisc.edu/4h/records/.

The report can be emailed to fdlmarketlivestock@gmail.com or sent to Fond du Lac County Fair Attention: MLP,  P.O. Box 1466, Fond du Lac, WI  54936.

Gallery Award Exhibits at Gallery & Frame Shop on Main St in Fond du Lac.

Gallery & Frame Shop 4-H Gallery Award Exhibit

2024 Gallery Award pieces are showcased in the front window of the Gallery & Frame Shop, 94 S. Main St, in historic downtown Fond du Lac. The exhibits will be there until August 31.
Items may be picked up during business hours after August 31 at the Gallery & Frame Shop. We realize this is a busy time with the start of school, and we understand items may need to be picked up earlier. Feel free to reach out with any questions at 920.921.1144 or  galleryframe@sbcglobal.net.

Awards and Recognition

Community Service Awards for Clubs and Individuals 
Service to the community is a fundamental principle of 4-H. Up to two youth in grades 5 - 8 and up to two youth in grades 9 - 12 will be recognized at the Annual 4-H Achievement Program. Top placing clubs submitting applications will be recognized. Recognition will be given in 2 categories: large and small clubs. Top-placing clubs will have funds donated by the Fond du Lac County 4-H Leader Association in their club’s name, to the agency for which the club did community service. Applications are due to the Extension Office by the Tuesday after Labor Day (September 3).
Apply for the 2024 4-H Key Award
The Key Award is the highest state 4-H award earned by members who have shown consistent growth in their 4-H involvement, developed and applied their leadership skills, and actively participated in their 4-H club and community. Youth in grades 11-13 are eligible to apply. Up to 4 recipients from Fond du Lac County can be selected. To be eligible for an award, you must turn in a completed application by September 15 and interview. You can find the application at  https://fonddulac.extension.wisc.edu/4h/travel-experiences-a/.  2024 National 4-H Week: Make & Deliver 

National 4-H Week is October 6-12, and we would like to showcase clubs  in Wisconsin that are participating in  service projects around that time. The Wisconsin 4-H Leadership Council is excited to announce this year’s service project theme: “Make and Deliver.” We want to encourage your club to make a unique impact on your community with a broad spectrum of community service acts, such as:
  • Cards
  • Blankets and pillows
  • Meal kits
  • Knitted items
  • Plant trees
  • Nursing home visits & games
  • Dog toys & treats
  • Birthday party kits (supplies for party, cake mix kit) 
  • First aid kits
  • Dinner/snacks (deliver to another organization)
  • Repurposed wreaths
  • Free Library
  • Any other local projects that your club chooses!

Adult Leaders Meeting, Fair Forum, & Raffle Ticket Drawing - August 21 at 6:30 pm

All parents, adult, and youth leaders, whether you are a project, club, special event, or county leader are invited on August 21 for the Adult Leader’s Association Meeting. Before this meeting, at 6:30 pm, there will be an open conversation on county fair ideas. A fair board rep will be present to hear your feedback on the strengths of the fair and suggestions for changes. After the fair suggestions, the Adult Leaders Meeting will follow. Both meetings will take place at Extension Fond du Lac County, room AE-205/206. The Adult Leader’s Association meets 3 times per year – March, August, and October. This is your opportunity to hear, learn, share, and have input. Mark your calendar for August 21. All clubs are encouraged to have a representative present.
EZ Record Form which replaces doing a whole record book.

New Record Book Option for Grade 3 & Up

The Fond du Lac County 4-H EZ Record Form is a document that captures your 4-H participation in a given year. This is an alternative option to the traditional record book. It is 6 pages total (3 front and back). The last page is just for scoring and comments. The record book could be filled out in 15-20 mins at a club meeting.  Although this form is not eligible for county-level record book awards, corresponding awards will be given based on the total number of points earned by a member for the current 4-H year using the following scale: Bronze: 30-75, Silver: 76-105, Gold: 106-215.
