Dear students,

Spring break is just around the corner. We've spoken with so many students recently who are feeling the pressure and the excitement of reaching this checkpoint. Amid deadlines and midterms, please take care of yourselves and those around you.

March is an exciting time here at Duke. To start, we want to wish you a happy Women's History Month! In the next few weeks, look out for events to celebrate women's contributions to our society and opportunities to fight for gender equality.

Furthermore, the start of Ramadan is this weekend. The Center for Muslim Life, along with campus partners, is proud to offer free programming and meals throughout the month to observe this sacred time. Details on these moments can be found below. Ramadan Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Whether you're planning a getaway, staying in Durham, or simply looking forward to some quality downtime, take this time to rest and recharge. You have earned it.

In Case You Missed It...
Bonfire Guidelines

Pending Duke’s victory and safe weather conditions, please remember the guidelines for our bonfire traditions following the Duke vs. UNC Men's Basketball game on Saturday, March 9th. The guidelines were determined by the Durham Fire Marshal and Duke University officials in order to ensure the safety of those in attendance.

  • The bonfire location is in front of DOLLARD HOUSE (KILGO HOUSE P) on ABELE QUAD
  • APPROVED house benches are the ONLY bonfire fuel
  • STAFF ON SCENE will identify approved house benches to students
  • NO glass is allowed on Abele Quad
  • DO NOT sit/stand on building roofs, balconies, or window sills
  • NO use of bonfire accelerant is allowed

The bonfire permit allows TWO HOURS of burn time. Any other bonfire is ILLEGAL and may be PROSECUTABLE. Go Duke!
Commencement Speaker Nominations

The selection committee is now accepting nominations for student speaker. One student will represent roughly 1600 undergraduates, the other will do so for the 5000 or so candidates for graduate and professional degrees. All members of the Duke community are encouraged to suggest potential candidates for these two roles. Nominations are due March 18th. Additional details about eligibility can be found in the nomination form.
