Prairie Meadows Impact in Action
Prairie Meadows Polk County
Every year Polk County and Prairie Meadows provide revenue sharing funds to each of the 16 public school districts in Polk County. This year, Polk County and Prairie Meadows awarded $1,343,000 to Polk County students. The funds are unrestricted funds. Since the partnership began is 2007, Polk County and Prairie Meadows have provided $5.8 million to Polk County students. 

ORGANIZATION: DES MOINES INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
PROJECT TITLE: DES MOINES PUBLIC SCHOOLS COMMUNITY STADIUM 
LEGACY GRANT AMOUNT: $300,000

This Legacy Grant will help Des Moines Public Schools build a first-class athletics venue on the Drake University campus with the goal of creating a home for more than 40 athletic teams. The venue will drive more engagement with high school soccer and football games, and NCAA Division I soccer through a high-quality and family-friendly fan experience. Additionally, it will offer a venue for other competitive events in the Des Moines area.

Blank Childrens Hospital Legacy Grant
Blank Children’s Hospital Recipient of Employee Donations

Blank Children’s Hospital received 118 outfits, 60 blankets and $200.00 cash in an initiative by Prairie Meadows employees to help the babies at the hospital.

“Prairie Meadows fulfills its purpose by giving back to organizations that support education, economic development, and human services. We are committed to transforming the lives of central Iowans. Prairie Meadows is dedicated to helping the interests of hospitals through capital improvements, program support, and patient services with charitable donations that will help improve our community’s health,” said Gary Palmer, President and CEO of Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino.

Great Outdoors Foundation

Great Outdoors Foundation Awarded $300,000 Legacy Grant 

The Great Outdoors Foundation provides leadership, fosters partnerships, and serves as a catalyst for projects that offer exceptional and long-term impact that restore natural spaces and promote conservation. Their newest initiative, Iowa Confluence Water Trails, aims to provide clean, safe, and fun water for outdoor recreation opportunities. With more than 80 improvements planned, across 150 miles of rivers and creeks in central Iowa, Prairie Meadows’ $300,000 Legacy Grant will support the first of three low-head dam mitigation projects in Downtown Des Moines.

Drake University Legacy Grant
Drake University Knapp Center Legacy Grant Recipient

The Knapp Center at Drake University has been an important venue for the Des Moines Community for the past 30 years and is now in need of structural repairs and upgrades. With the support of Prairie Meadows $275,000 Legacy Grant, the Knapp Center will undergo a significant renovation complete with a new sports medicine center, improved seating, concession lounges, and more. These improvements will create and enhance gameday experiences for Drake’s athletic teams that will be unrivaled in Des Moines and with Drake’s peer institutions. Projects like this make a difference in the everyday lives of those in our community.

Principal Charity Classic

The mission of the Principal Charity Classic is to raise money for Iowa children through an exciting, family-friendly event that also contributes greatly to the economic vitality and quality of life in central Iowa. A Night of Blue & White – Benefit for Iowa Methodist, Iowa Lutheran, and Methodist West Hospital 

Gary Palmer, CEO of Prairie Meadows and Honorary Chair, takes great pride in partnering with A Night of Blue & White which helps to invest in programs that directly impact patient care and the nurses, physicians and staff who provide care for those in our community. With Gary's leadership, $134,000 was raised to help support the initiative of continual investment in education, innovation and research, vital in keeping healthcare teams at the forefront of medicine. It means teams of experts are equipped and qualified to lead the way in the ever-changing best practices in medicine.

By investing in the health care teams at Iowa Methodist, Iowa Lutheran and Methodist West Hospitals, Prairie Meadows has been able to play an essential role in their mission: to improve the health of the people and communities we serve. Events like this make a difference in the everyday lives of those in our community. 

All-Star Character Counts


All-Star Character Counts & the Ray Center is dedicated to helping improve civility through character development and ethical leadership. Prairie Meadowsakes great pride in partnering with meaningful programs like All-Star Character Counts. All of the funds raised at All-Star Evening support the character and leadership development projects of the Ray Center. The 2023 Ray Pillar Of Character Award Recipient, is Allen Lazard. (pictured on right)

Healthy Birth Day, Inc


Prairie Meadows is proud to provide $20,000 in funds to enhance a digital footprint by creating a web-based kick counter, while also connecting Polk County expectant parents to resources in the community to connect the dots between the importance of tracking fetal movement and connecting with needed resources to those most at risk, for expectant parents. In addition, a free resource on an app and website will allow users to find free or reduced cost resources like food banks, housing assistance, childcare and more. This is a true community-led initiative that takes evidence-based stillbirth prevention methods and provides a holistic approach to encourage healthy moms and babies in Polk County. Click here to learn more.  

Prairie Meadows Scholarships

Prairie Meadows has worked to further the educational opportunities of students in Polk County for nearly two decades. We are committed to a scholarship program that dedicates $100,000 each year to high school seniors who choose to further their education in Iowa. Bondurant Rec & Roll

Bondurant Rec & Roll is an initiative dedicated to providing an opportunity for the City of Bondurant residents to interact and welcome new neighbors. Neighborhood block parties and community events strengthen relationships within and among neighborhoods and help Bondurant be a more welcoming and inclusive community. The Rec -N- Roll Trailer program is a collaborative effort involving staff and resources from multiple city and civic organizations, including Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and the Chamber of Commerce, along with partnerships with Prairie Meadows, Polk County, and Amazon's DSM5 Facility.
