3 BRIDGES 5k COURSE NOTES
The 3 Bridges 5k is an exciting course that features the Market St Bridge, Harvey Taylor Bridge, and the Walnut St Bridge. This race will start at the same time and location as the Half Marathon.
RELAY COURSE AND EXCHANGE NOTES
The relay exchange will be located on the lower level Greenbelt Path just down the ramp from the Passage to India restaurant (520 Race St, Harrisburg, PA 17104)
At packet pickup, all relay exchange participants will receive a race bib and one ankle strap. The ankle strap contains the timing chip that will track the time for your relay team. There will be a special section at packet pickup for relay teams.
When you get to the relay exchange, the runner who just finished the first leg will take off the strap and give it to the runner of the second leg. The runner of the second leg will then put on the ankle strap and wear it until the finish. There will be a specially designated section to veer off the course to complete the relay exchange.
There will be a volunteer at the relay exchange to help coordinate the exchange of the ankle strap.
After you finish the race, please give the ankle strap back to the race timing table at the finish line.
There is no shuttle system to transport runners.

WALKER COURSE NOTES
The course will be marked, but all walkers are strongly encouraged to review the first several miles of the course ahead of time using the attachment below.
Please familiaze yourself with the course route ahead of time to avoid the possibility of getting lost.
Walkers will follow the same course as the Half Marathon. The only difference will be using sidewalks instead of road for the first 3 miles (see above link for specific details).
The start time is 7:15am.
The course will be marked, but volunteers and water stations will not be on the course and ready until after 8am. Please carry extra water and gels packs with you.
There are no awards for walkers.
All walkers will receive a finish medal upon crossing the finish line.
Walkers are permitted to do a run/walk on the course.
Walkers will receive an official time in the results under the category "Walkers"
All official times for walkers will be based on gun time.
All walkers will wear a race bib with a timing chip, which will trigger your official finish time upon crossing the finish line
HALF MARATHON/3 BRIDGES 5K COURSE SPLIT **IMPORTANT**
The Half Marathon and the 3 Bridges 5k will follow the same course from the start of the race until the base of the Walnut St Bridge, which is approximately 3 miles into the course.
Runners from both events will make and right turn from Front St to the base of the Walnut St Bridge.
At this split:
  • 5k runners will continue straight across the bridge to the finish on City Island.
  • Half Marathon runners will bear left and go down the lower level path and head south
Please familiarize yourself with this split ahead of time so there is no confusion once you get to this point. There will also be markings and volunteers at this junction.
CHIP TIMING
The race is being timed using a disposable chip system and we will have both a starting line mat and finish line mat in place.  Please make sure you cross both mats during the race.  Your time will not start until you cross the start line mat and will stop when you cross the finish line mat.  Walkers will only be required to cross the finish line mat as their time will be adjusted accordingly.
RESULTS
Results will be uploaded as soon as possible following the race.
Results will be listed on FalconRaceTiming.com
PARKING
All participants and spectators can park on City Island, which is also the location of packet pick-up, the starting line, and the finish line.
PACING TEAM
We are happy to have a pace team this year from MarathonPacing.com! The pace team will be available to packet pick-up on Saturday, September 9th to answer any questions.
To view the pace times and for more information, see below
SPECTATORS
Spectators interested in viewing parts of the race are encouraged to find spots along the Upper Riverfront path.
The runners will pass by the Walnut St walking bridge three times, so this is a great place for spectators.
If you plan on returning to City Island for the finish, please be courteous of runners as they will be finishing crossing the Walnut Street Bridge.  The finish line is at the end of the bridge on the City Island side. There will be barricades set up to control spectator traffic and maintain a clear finish line.
AWARD SCORING INFORMATION
Awards for this race are scored in the same format as the Boston Marathon:
  • Overall awards - Gun time
  • Age group awards - Chip time
If you are not familiar with the difference between chip time and gun time, please take a moment to read below.
Chip time is the total time between when you race bib cross the starting line mats and the finish line mats. Your race bib has a timing chip that will trigger when you cross both locations.
With chip time, order of finish does not determine award placement. Just because you cross the finish line before another participant does not mean you ran a faster time than them.
Example: Participant A crosses the finish line 5 seconds before participant B. It appears that Participant A had a faster time and would place above Participant B in the awards. But, Participant B actually crossed the starting line 30 seconds AFTER Participant A. In the final results, Participant B had a chip time that was 25 seconds faster than Participant A, so Participant B would be seeded higher in the final results and for the age group awards.
In summary, just because you cross the finish line before someone does not necessarily mean your chip time was faster.
Gun time starts when starting gun goes off and finishes when your race bib (timing chip on the back) crosses the finish line mats.
With gun time, all participants have a starting time that begins when the air horn sounds at the beginning of the race. Their official time is determined when they cross the finish line and their bib triggers when they cross the finish line mats.
All gun times are seeded in direct order of finish. With gun time, any time you cross the finish line before someone, you are seeded above that person in the results.
Example: The first male who crosses the finish line gets first place, the second male who crosses the finish line gets second place, and that continues until the last person finishes.
All overall awards are seeded based on gun time (order of finish)
All age group awards are seeded by chip time
No exceptions will be made when designating overall and age group awards
When checking results, please make sure you are looking at the correct category when looking to see if you placed for an award.
Regardless, if you are planning on competing for an age group award, it is highly recommended you start at close to the starting line as possible.
