Revelation 9:20-21
20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
New International Version (NIV)
"The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts."
Trumpets sound.  One of our sons took up the trumpet in middle school.  Sometimes, the sound of his  practice was painful.
John describes seven trumpets which sound the alarm and announce disasters about to strike.  Not everyone takes the hint.  After several plagues which destroyed life, some still did not repent.
Growing up on military bases familiarized me with the bugle sounding an alarm.  In the evening we heard the mellifluous sound of Taps:  day is done, gone the sun. . .  God is near.  In the morning the bright sound of reveille awakened us.
In the events around us, what is God saying?  Is he comforting us?  Perhaps.  Is he awakening us?  Yes.  Will we repent or continue in patterns of disobedience.  The trumpet is sounding.  Let us hear, repent, and obey.
Pray with me:
Father, awaken your slumbering church.  The world is sleeping in the dark, but the church just can't fight, because we're asleep in the light.  Get our attention we pray, while it is still day.  Be near O God.  We need you now.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
Our 2022 Every Day with Jesus readings will cover the whole Bible in one year.  Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
We would love for you to join us as we read through the Bible this year. In addition, I will continue my long-standing practice of reading one Psalm a day through the year.  As we journal together this year, Highlight a verse that stands out to you, Explain what it means, Apply that truth to your life and Respond to what you’ve read with an action or prayer.
Joyfully,
Duane
