Coincidence or providence? My friend Bill Gladden used to say to me, “You have heard that the devil is in the details, but I tell you, God is in the details.” I have found this to be true. When God answers our specific prayers, how should we respond?
Once Rebekah watered the camels, the servant gave her gifts and asked her about her family. In fact, he invited himself to her home. Then she welcomed him, explaining that Bethuel was her father. Abraham’s servant had come to the right girl in the right family in the right place.
The servant bowed down and worshiped the Lord, thanking him for his kindness and faithfulness in leading him to the house of Abraham’s relatives. This was not coincidence but providence. The servant walked right into a divine appointment. He did not want to disappoint his master. So he praised the Lord for answering his prayer.
How has God answered your prayers? I remember praying for a wife and when I least expected it Melanie entered the picture. One of the moms in our church told me she prayed for her sons’ wives when her boys were small. On the wedding day, she blessed them. They were the ones for whom she had prayed.
I know the devil would like to be in the details of our lives, but that position has already been taken by the God of providence. Let’s ask God to help us keep the appointments he has made for us today. When God answers, we should praise God for all our worth, because God is worth it, worthy of worship.
