Fall is in full swing here in Colorado! And while the leaves, the temperature, and your go-to coffee orders are changing, our passion for inclusion is not. So, cozy up and read about all that is going on in the world of inclusive higher education. This edition will include the following

The Impact of Inclusion!

When asked how being included on a college campus has impacted him, Jason, an upperclassman with the UNC GOAL program, joyfully shared about the independence and confidence he has found. As he explained all that he was learning both in classes and out, it was evident that his inclusive college experience has shaped him in ways that will positively impact him forever. Jason is just one example of many students enrolled in inclusive higher education programs that are developing self-confidence and pursuing their goals with more independence than ever before. Inclusion opens the door for students with ID to see their value and potential within their community, and that is only the beginning. Mentorship Matters!

Our fall sessions for IN!spiring Futures College Mentorship have officially launched, and we are so excited. We have 13 high school students from across the state that are tuning in to hear from current inclusive higher education students about their college journey. Mentorship experiences like this allow students with intellectual disabilities to truly see that college is an option for them, and we are all about it! 
This week, students in the mentorship program will be learning about what campus and social life are like in college. From club events to dorm life, our students get to experience it all. Maybe you are wondering, what is a typical day in the life for a student accessing inclusive higher education? Check out this resource from the Office of Inclusive Services at UCCS for a glimpse! 

Thank You, Lieutenant Governor!

We are thankful for Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera’s support of inclusive higher education! She spent a day visiting with students and staff at the UNC GOAL program in celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. She was eager to hear how students with intellectual disabilities are being included all across campus and being prepared for meaningful employment. We were joined by peer mentors, students, faculty, and many other supporters from the campus to share about the power of inclusion.

UCCS Office of Inclusive Services will be hosting an in-person information night in early November. This is a great way for prospective parents and students to meet the staff, hear about program and application details, and get your questions answered.

If you've graduated from an inclusive higher education program, then we invite you to our next alumni gathering. Come hang out with IN!'s young professional board members and your fellow graduates for drinks and/or non-alcoholic beverages. We'll spend time catching up with one another and continuing to build community.
