Acts 26: 12 - 14
12 “On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

New International Version (NIV)
One of the God billboards from the 1990’s asked in bold black and white, “Will the road you are on take you by my place?  -- God” Good question. If we stay on the road we are traveling, where will we end up? If we do what we plan to do today, will we be going God’s way?

“All roads lead to Rome.” In the ancient world, so many of the major thoroughfares found their way to the capital city of the Empire. Paul himself was about to head to Rome. The roads were impressive to behold and travel. Melanie and I once walked on the basalt stones of the Appian way which he traveled to enter the city.

In his audience with the powerful political leaders, Paul told King Agrippa about his journey toward Damascus where he had intended to persecute Christians. Instead of arresting Christ’s followers, Paul found himself arrested by Christ. A light brighter than the sun and a voice in his own language stopped him in his tracks, asking him, “Why do you persecute me?” Paul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” The voice answered, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.”

Imagine the brightest light you have ever seen, literally blinding you. Imagine a voice in your own language revealing that you have been fighting against the Lord. We can either live our lives for Jesus or against Jesus, but we cannot do both. We are going somewhere today. Why not go with God? He knows the way home.

Pray with me:
Father, please give us directions to home. Siri can’t help us. We are not asking Google to point the way. We ask that we would so walk with Jesus today and for a lifetime that when we come to the end of the road, we will be home with you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals are in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
