Have you ever petted a shark? One of our friends at Tallowood has set up the shark exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. This seems like a cool job. We took one of our grands at the first of the year and we hope to take our others this week. These sand sharks and rays are shy and slippery, but safe. I have so many questions to ask our friend. How came these animals to be in the museum? Were they born there or caught and transplanted, like the crappie in my favorite fishing spot?
Artists have tried to depict the procession of animals up the ramps into the ark. It must have been miraculous. It is hard enough just to catch the armadillos that destroy gardens or peacocks that invade our narthex. Thankfully, all were accounted for. God gave specific instructions about animals and food for the ark. The ark would be their home for several months. Honestly, the feeding and cleaning sound like a lot of work.
When we think of Noah, we so often think of the animals on the ark. But this last line is the point. In a covenant, we obey. God told Noah what to do and he did it all just as God commanded him. Avery Willis said, the two questions, “Do you love Jesus?” and “Do you obey Jesus?” are actually the same question. If we love him, we will keep his commandments, especially to love others (John 14:15). What has God told us to do today? Are we doing it? What are we waiting for? There is no time like the present. Ask God and he will surely lead you.
