Annual Electrical Testing Day - August 7th |
Utilities and Energy will perform Island Mode testing on Wednesday, August 7, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The campus will switch in and out of Island Mode twice per hour. Each test will occur at the top and middle of the hour, with transitions back to the grid at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour. Brief power outages (up to 10 seconds) may occur if issues arise.
CPFM Compound (Bldgs. 130, 136, Lockshop, Wilkinson House, Quonsets) will be without power from 8:00-9:30 AM for maintenance.
For support during testing:
Check the IT Service Status website for unexpected outages.
Report other issues to the CPFM Work Control Center at 541-346-2319 or workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu.
For questions or suggestions, contact Steve Mital, Director of Utilities and Energy at smital@uoregon.edu.

Today is Jeff Butler’s last official day in Facilities Services. He is retiring from the UO where he has spent his last 7 years as Director of Facilities Services. During his time here, we have rolled out AiM, introduced ANVIL and iPads to our folks, moved from Zones to Shops, implemented developmental opportunities for vacant positions, created a Facilities Services Service Center, and have become an even more professional organization.
Jeff spent the first 30 years of his Facilities Career at Montana State University, where he met his lovely wife, Tammie, who was the Director of Housing. After receiving a job offer from UO, they decided to move to Oregon, where you don’t have to shovel “rain”. They have now settled in the country where Jeff is working to make their home net zero. Jeff has no definite plans after retirement but will surely keep himself busy with projects for himself and others, trips back to Montana to visit family & friends, and attend the occasional concert. His Rottweiler Ryelee is really going to appreciate him being home to take her on more walks. Thank you for all you have done for us and enjoy your well-deserved break.

Ken Sievers has retired from his position as Facilities AD at our Portland NE Campus. Ken grew up on a farm in Idaho and attended Portland Lutheran School, which was part of Concordia College at the time. After graduating high school, Ken continued his education at Concordia College, where he met his wife, Georgina. They were married in the campus chapel.
Ken began working for Concordia, ultimately managing campus facilities until the school closed in early 2022. Ken was kept on as caretaker until the University of Oregon purchased the property in June 2022. The University of Oregon was fortunate to keep Ken on, extending his retirement multiple times. He assisted us as we commenced into a major physical revamping and establishment of the new UO Portland Facilities crew.
Ken can now enjoy his retirement, filling his days with yard work, golf, Habitat for Humanity, spending time with his grandkids, and tackling Georgina’s to-do list.

| “The greatest gift of working at the UO is seeing how what I’m doing impacts the Eugene campus on a daily basis,” DeChant says. “Generations of people who did my gig before me worked to get us here. We’re just trying to save their work and keep it going.”

"I used to work on a hospital ship traveling through different parts of Europe and Africa where I would stay in a location for about six months and then travel back to Europe for additional supplies. The ship I was on supported medical operations and provided medical treatments for patients with tumors, cataracts, cleft palates, as well as providing nose and throat surgeries."

Johnson Hall Shares Their Appreciation |
There was a LOT of gratitude for all the help taking care of the space in and around Johnson Hall during spring term. The crews went above and beyond—many, many times!

Please give Quintin and Steven a huge thank you for a fantastic job moving multiple offices between two buildings. Not only was there a ton to do, but they were also very helpful in figuring out where to place cubical walls when the original plan didn’t work out.
They were able to move everyone, and our IT team was able to have faculty and staff back up and running by lunchtime.
Thank you so much! - Sherilyn Schwartz, Lokey Education

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude. Last week, amidst the sweltering heat and without any air conditioning (or any form of air circulation), a member of your CPFM team came to our rescue, transforming both our day and our week.
Our department head had been attempting to rectify this issue for several years. We were on the verge of purchasing a portable air conditioner, aware of the frequent issues at Esslinger. However, DAVEY stepped in, swiftly identified the problem, and installed a new thermostat, resolving the issue. His empathetic understanding of our predicament and his professional demeanor truly brightened our day by finally cooling our workspace.
He even came by again to ensure that the air conditioning was still functioning correctly! DeeDee and I, the only occupants currently in this office, are immensely grateful. Thank you for always providing such an amazing team!
Best regards, Melanie Frederick
