 Snow Planning:
  • Please check the School website home page and calendar or social media (Facebook and Twitter) for snow-related updates and activity/schedule changes.
  • This is Teacher Conference Week. In the event of School closure, teacher conferences planned on that day will be cancelled and rescheduled.
  • If we have a delayed opening and your conference time takes place when school is open, your conference will continue as planned.

For the Love of Reading
"Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift."  (Author Kate DiCamillo)
Looking for ways to survive "Snowmageddon" with your kids? Help them curl up with a good book!
It is widely recognized that the better the reading skills children have, and the earlier they have them, determines how rapidly and how well they will achieve in school. As this is Book Fair week, our librarians, Carol Wise and Melanie Ferguson, offer the following tips and ideas on how to get your children excited about reading:
Where to find books your kids will gobble up:
How to get kids excited to read:
  • As "Generation Digital," encourage your children to explore our St. Michael's digital library! Click here for instructions on how to access our eBook collection.
  • Visit author websites with your children as many contain reading games and activities to get your kids excited about reading. Some great examples:
    ----  bignatebooks.com,  mowillems.com
    ----
    treasurehuntersbooks.comtreehousebookseries.com

  • Even better, COME TO THE SMPA BOOK FAIR this week where we will have a wonderful selection of recommended reading for grades K-8!
(While snowed in this weekend, be sure to check out our St M Facebook and Twitter pages for a glimpse into our curriculum, culture and community.)
