| Academic Careers in India

Are you a PhD candidate or Postdoctoral student looking to take your academic career to India? UChicagoGRAD is a hosting an Alumni Spotlight with Dr. Roychoudhuri, a former academic job market candidate, now Associate Professor and recruiter at Ahmedabad University. Our speaker will be answering questions regarding India's academic job market and offering a Q&A session after her initial keynote. In addition, Dr. Roychoudhuri is offering 1:1 office hours to those who sign-up HERE.

| NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants Info Session
Tuesday, November 18, 12:30–1:30 p.m., Zoom
This session provides an overview of the NSF DDRIG programs, deadlines, and requirements. We will also review the submission process for DDRIGs in Sociology and Political Science. The session will focus on application components and steps, tips for writing the proposal, and best practices for preparing successful applications. Please note that U.S. citizenship is not a requirement to apply for a DDRIG. This session is targeted to students in Social Sciences Division, Harris School, and Crown School.

| Presentation Incubator
Tuesday, November 18, 1:30–3:00 p.m., UChicagoGRAD HQ
The Presentation Incubator is a supportive space for students to workshop presentations-in-progress and share strategies with their fellow research communicators. At monthly meetings, participants will present partial or full talks, pitch ideas, and discuss special topics related to presentation best practices. UChicagoGRAD oral communications specialists will provide constructive feedback and facilitate conversation. Students completing practice fields for the Research Communication Credential are especially encouraged to attend. This event is open to graduate students and postdocs in all disciplines. It fulfills a requirement for the GRAD Research Communication Credential.

| myCHOICE mini-course_Project Management Essentials for STEM PhDs
Tuesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 20, 4:00–6:00 p.m., UChicagoGRAD HQ
In this two-session workshop (November 18th and 20th; 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.), STEM PhD students and postdocs will be introduced to the fundamentals of project management and how these concepts can be applied directly to their research. The session will provide a toolkit of practical approaches, terminology, and processes drawn from established project management standards. Participants will learn how to use these tools to plan and organize their own projects more effectively and to collaborate productively as part of larger research teams. To participate, you must be a current UChicago STEM PhD student, Teaching Fellow, or Postdoc.

Improve your professional skills in 30 minutes or less! This presentation will provide attendees with essential information on networking best practices. You will learn how to make networking work for you, how to identify and connect with potential networking contacts, and how to conduct informational interview conversations. An open Q&A will follow. This session is appropriate for graduate students and postdocs in all disciplines. International students will benefit from learning about the networking process in the United States.

How do you select, layout, and sequence images for your publication or dissertation? How do you work within quantity constraints set by an editor, or negotiate the number of color images at the contract stage? What about when you need to create a custom image to convey your argument, reconstruct a site, map, diagram, or other details? This workshop will engage strategies for curating the images you’ll include to support your argument and how to create wholly new images to convey your work.
