The Garden of Secrets: Screening & Discussion
Thursday June 27 | 6:00 - 8:30pm
Through millions of years of evolution, the structures and processes of organisms have resolved many of the engineering and environmental challenges facing the modern world–we just need to look, observe, and learn.

Botanical gardens are “idea libraries,” places where a wealth of these solutions have been assembled near the doorsteps of the scientists, engineers, and designers tackling these issues.

Join us for the Canadian premiere of The Garden of Secrets. Created in partnership with UBC Botanical Garden, this fascinating documentary explores the influence of plants on architecture, design and engineering. The screening will be followed by a discussion.

The museum will be yours to explore for the evening, including a guided tour of our extensive research collections!

Nocturnal: Meet the Pollinators
Thursday, June 20 | 6:00 - 8:30pm

It's summer again, and all around us pollinators are hard at work keeping our ecosystems healthy.

But can you tell a bee from a wasp? And why does it matter?

Meet our entomology team to learn more about how pollinators do what they do, and why it's important for us to be able to tell them apart!

Practice your pollinator identification skills in in the museum courtyard to learn how challenging it can be to accurately identify insects, and why using the right name matters!

We'll collect your data on our local population, and discuss how field work and the museum's research collections work together to help us track insect biodiversity over time.
