Grad students are encouraged to attend the Inaugural Graduate Education Summit: Graduate Student Experience Symposium on November 14, 2024, at the Georgia Tech Exhibition Hall. This event brings together graduate students, faculty, and staff to explore innovations in graduate education, share insights, and discuss trends. There is a special track targeted directly for graduate students, covering graduate student wellness and development, through two standard sessions and one lightning round session. Whether you're looking to enhance your academic experience or connect with peers, this symposium offers engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and expert-led sessions. The symposium will also feature keynotes by Dr. Ronald Johnson, senior vice president of Strategic Initiatives, and Dr. Daniel Denecke, NSF program director for the Division of Graduate Education. Mentoring Conversation Series for Graduate Students
|
Graduate and Postdoctoral Education graduate students and postdocs to take part in the Mentoring Conversations Workshop Series, designed to help research mentors enhance their skills and develop productive relationships with mentees. Each workshop can be registered for individually – you do not have to sign up for the full set. A certificate of completion will be provided to anyone who completes all five workshops. Future Faculty Job Search Academy
|
Candidates for faculty positions experience an interview process that is unique to academic positions. Participants in this workshop series will learn what to expect in first and second round academic interviews, how to make a positive impression on the interview committee, and how to structure and deliver a job talk that wows your audience. This workshop takes place on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10 am until noon in Crosland 4160. The materials in this workshop will be presented in November and repeated in January for those who cannot attend.

Funding Opportunities: DOE NNSA SSG Fellowship
|
The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF) is currently accepting applications through January 14, 2025. The DOE NNSA SSGF seeks and supports students pursuing a Ph.D. in areas of interest to stewardship science, such as materials under extreme conditions, nuclear science, or high energy density physics. Renewable for up to four years, the fellowship is open to U.S. citizens who plan full-time, uninterrupted study toward a doctoral degree at an accredited U.S. university.

Innovation in Building (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship
|
The Innovation in Buildings (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship, managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, aims to strengthen the pool of well-trained, diverse PhD scholars who are equipped for research-intensive building technologies careers in academia, industry, and the national labs.
Fellowships begin July-September, 2025. Application Closes on December 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time.

ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award
|
The ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award honors outstanding research by Ph.D. candidates in computer science and engineering. The winner receives a $20,000 prize, travel to the ACM Awards Banquet, and publication of their dissertation in the ACM Books Series. Honorable mentions may also receive a $10,000 shared prize. The nomination deadline is November 30, 2024 for dissertations in translation. Nominations should be submitted via the ACM online form.

AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award
|
AAAI and ACM SIGAI established the Joint AAAI/ACM SIGAI Doctoral Dissertation Award to recognize and encourage superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in artificial intelligence. The award is presented annually at the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and the winner is invited to present a talk at the conference. A nominated dissertation must have been successfully defended (but not necessarily finalized) between October 1 of the previous year through September 30 of the current year. Nominations are due on November 21, 2024.

The Veterans Resource Center will host its annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Monday, November 11, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Ferst Center lobby. | Spark the Fire: Igniting Indigenous Voices at Georgia Tech

Join Intercultural Student Programs (ISP) for a forum in celebration of Native American Heritage Month on November 12 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Cypress Theater (John Lewis Student Center). Together, ISP and the campus community will explore impactful ways to uplift and support Indigenous communities locally and globally, sparking conversations to pave the way for future initiatives at Georgia Tech. Apply to be a Graduation Speaker
|
Fall master's and Ph.D. graduates are invited to apply to be the Georgia Tech student Commencement reflection speaker at this semester's Commencement exercises. A panel of faculty, administrators, and students will select a student for each institute ceremony to share an inspirational message at the respective ceremonies.
The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.

Attend the 2024 Lavender Celebration
|
The LGBTQIA Resource Center will be honoring Fall 2024 graduates at the end of the semester for students who will not be attending the larger spring Lavender Celebration.
Graduates who RSVP will receive a lavender stole, certificate, and lapel pin. The Center will also host a small breakfast for December graduates. You must RSVP by Friday, November 22 to receive graduate materials. If you have any questions, please email William Britto at wbritto3@gatech.edu.
